Both sopranos want top billing, the tenor doesn't know the language, and the impresario just tries to hold it all together. Enter an outlandish Stage Mom and you have the makings of a hilarious comic opera. With this little known gem by the composer of L'elisir d'amore, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Don Pasquale, we laugh with you and at ourselves while enjoying colorful characters, absurd situations, and beautiful singing.
Richard Holmes (Metropolitan Opera) and Jennifer Roderer (New York City Opera) are joined by Elizabeth Andrews Roberts (Violetta in La Traviata, 2008) and members of the 2010 Apprentice Artist Program in a new production directed by Nelson Sheeley (Don Pasquale, 2009) and conducted by John Douglas (La Vie Parisienne, 2007).
