Extended Season

SPAC'S EXTENDED SEASON
May 23, 29 & 30

All Performances take place at the Spa Little Theatre and start at 8:00 p.m.

SPAC's Extended Season brings an exciting new dimension and more variety to the existing classical repertoire. Developed as a way to showcase nationally and internationally known muscians whose work bridges both classical and popular preforming arts.

Recently featured as part of Good Morning America Inauguration coverage, the Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble under the direction of Terry Wright offers a repertoire that spans several genres including classical, gospel, spiritual, R&B, pop and soul. During their tours with The Boys Choir of Harlem, Alumni members performed at venues that included The White House, The United Nations, Carnegie Hall, The Apollo, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, St. Paul's Cathedral in London and more. Scheduled to perform on Saturday, May 23, the group's performance will be the first of the Extended Season and presented in collaboration with Saratoga ArtsFest, www.saratogaartsfest.org

Twenty-three year old jazz vocalist Rachael Price will perform on May 29. Price attracted attention at 17 by becoming the youngest semi-finalist in both the Montreaux International Jazz Vocal Competition in Europe and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Jazz critics and professionals have called her "gifted," "brilliant," and "incredible." Price recently released her third CD, The Good Hours.

Preeminent Latin jazz pianist and bandleader Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra perform on May 30. O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra are 2009 Grammy Award winners in the category of 'Best Latin Jazz Album' for their work, Song for Chico. Often referred to as the world's leading Latin jazz big band, the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra was founded by O'Farrill in 2001 for Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center. The Orchestra now performs at New York City's venerated performance center, Symphony Space and tours nationally and internationally. They've performed at major venues that include the prestigious Megaron concert hall in Athens, The Bern Jazz Festival and the Rialto Concert Hall in Atlanta.

"Special congratulations go out to Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra on receiving a Grammy at Sunday's awards ceremony. We are proud to offer SPAC audiences the opportunity to enjoy these extraordinary musicians, and see firsthand why they earned music's most prestigious honor," said White.
