Mendelssohn Sextet in D major for Piano, Violin, Two Violas, Cello, and Bass, Op. 110

Creative instrumental combinations are a unique feature of this concert which opens with Mozart's ingenious invention, the piano quartet. Hungarian Zoltan Kodály found the perfect palette for his folk-influenced Serenade with two violins and viola, and the precocious teenage Mendelssohn added a viola and a double bass to the supporting cast of the pianist, who plays a virtuoso role throughout.

Program and artists subject to change.
